what are dental crowns?
The crown fits the entire tooth. To ensure a proper fit, a small amount of enamel is removed before the crown is placed. Some of the most common reasons for resorting to dental crowns include a fracture or fracture of a tooth, tooth wear, loss of tooth strength with significant obturation, or a change in tooth shape and color.
In addition to protecting the tooth from breakage, the crown improves the harmony of the dentition and achieves a high degree of aesthetics. The interdental space is also closed, which positively affects the quality of life. They are used for partially or severely damaged teeth.

types of dental crowns
Metal crowns
Metal crowns, including gold, palladium, nickel and chrome crowns, are known for their excellent strength and wear resistance. However, the unnatural appearance of these types of crowns is one of their biggest drawbacks.
Metal-ceramic crowns
Metal-ceramic crowns combine the strength of metal with the natural look of porcelain. They are made by fusing a metal base with a porcelain coating. This type of crowns are durable and provide a natural look. However, porcelain can wear away over time, revealing the metal base underneath.
Porcelain crowns
They are suitable for patients with metal allergies and are ideal for front teeth. However, they are not as durable as metal ones.
Zirconia crowns
Zirconia crowns offer durability, strength and biocompatibility. High natural aesthetics is one of the main advantages of zirconia crowns. They lack a metal element that can be seen under the ceramic and give an unnatural appearance to the tooth. They blend seamlessly with the surrounding teeth, providing a natural appearance. These crowns do not cause allergic reactions.
What is the difference between veneers and dental crowns?
A porcelain veneer covers only the front surface of the tooth to improve its appearance. A dental crown, on the other hand, covers the entire tooth structure to add strength and protection. Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment. In other words, they improve your smile, but they don’t necessarily strengthen or restore your teeth. While dental crowns can also improve the appearance of your teeth, their primary purpose is to restore teeth that are severely damaged.
